NICU at Genesis provides specialized care for newborns, particularly premature or critically ill infants. Our hospital classifies NICU services into four levels, based on the type and complexity of care offered:
Level I – Basic Newborn Care For healthy, full-term newborns. Providing routine care like feeding and monitoring.Stabilizing infants requiring transfer to higher-level NICUs.
Level II – Special Care Nursery Caring for moderately ill or premature infants (≥32 weeks gestation). Providing oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids, and temperature regulation.
Handling short-term illnesses or recovery after intensive treatment.
Level III – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Providing advanced care for critically ill newborns (<32 weeks gestation or <1,500 grams). Offering mechanical ventilation, advanced imaging, and other intensive treatments. Staffed by neonatologists and multidisciplinary specialists.
Level IV – Regional NICU
The highest level of care for complex and critical cases.
Capable of performing advanced surgeries (e.g., cardiac, neurological). Acting as a referral center for lower-level NICUs.
These levels ensure that newborns receive tailored care based on their medical needs.
